It seems like every single time I make up a new newsletter I start off with the same thing. Come and join me in my mantra: "I want articles I want articles I want..." Come on, you can do it. I can't see how you're not sick of me saying this already. Even if it's just a small thing, I'll take it. Even if it's something someone else gave you, if it is edifying I'll take it. You know that this newsletter comes out every two weeks (except for holidays and breaks). Now I'm not trying to scold anybody, so let's not take the defensive here (and to all those who have sent me things before, thank you), but I am asking, nay pleading, for you to help me make this newsletter something special. It's not that hard. If I can prepare an entire newsletter every time, with my busy schedule, can't you at least prepare something small? Let's get to all the stuff that's happening. --------------- | ANNOUNCEMENTS | --------------- THE MONKEYS AND THE FISHIES --------------------------- Remember, this Saturday, March 9, we will spending a day in Waikiki getting acquainted with the animals that don't already attend Chi Alpha (har, har). We will be meeting at Chi Alpha corner at 9:00 am and then heading out to Waikiki to visit the zoo and the aquarium (although I don't know exactly which one we'll do first). The price is $4.00 per person for each place. THE PIGGYS AND THE KERMIES -------------------------- Ever miss the good old days when we were kids? Tentatively planned for this Friday, following the study, is a movie nite. For those intersted, we plan on going to see the Muppet's Treasure Island movie at Kahala Mall at 9:30 pm. CAMPING NEWS ------------ Well, we made a decision a couple weeks ago on the camping and this is the most recent update. The Oahu camp will take place from Saturday, March 23 - Monday, March 25 at Bellows beach in the Menehune area, which is within walking distance to the bathrooms. There is room for up to 10 people in two tents and comes with 2 picnic tables, a grill, and mini golf for an extra $10. Amy and Cheryl are in charge of the planning. The camp in Hana, Maui will be from Monday, March 25 - Wednesday, March 27. There are bbq grills at the site and tents are required. For cheap tickets there are two options. First, Royal Adventure Travel at 3615 Harding Avenue has Mahalo Airlines coupons for $28 each, or $56 round trip. Supplies are limited so, if you want to go, you need to act fast. Second, Flover is able to get Hawaiian Airlines coupons for $30 each, or $60 round trip. He can get them up until a few days before the scheduled flight. For those who don't already live on Maui, we may try to book the same flights. Joel and I are doing most of the planning for this one. For each of these camp, we need to have a head count as far as who will be going. We'll be doing that this Friday. If you aren't going to be at the meeting on Friday, let us know ahead of time. (We already have a few on the list for the Maui camp). Also, whether or not you are going to attend one of the camps, if you can help out in any way with equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, hibachis, coolers, or whatever, we would love to have your assistance in this area. LET'S GET STUFFED ----------------- You already got a message about this, but I'll tell you again anyway. This Sunday at 10am we have an opportunity for a fundraiser by stuffing envelopes for Ka Leo. Cheryl is the one to contact about this. I would strongly encourage you to make it. Consider going to your church's early morning service or night service for one day so you can help out and not leave poor Cheryl to do the work all by herself. Try a sample at the following URL: http://www.win.net/~stainglass/ls.htm ================= ______________________________________________________________________________ ---------- | FEATURES | ---------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE HALLELUJAH HORSE There was a man who wanted to sell his horse. He eventually found a buyer and explained to him that this was a special horse that was raised differently. It would not respond to giddy-yap and whoooah. If you wanted it to go you had to say, "Praise the Lord" and when you wanted the horse to stop you had to say, "Halelujia." The buyer looked quite baffled (seeing that he was not a Christian) "Halelujia and Praise the Lord you say," he asked? "Yep," replied the man, "and I guarentee you he'll ride like lightening." So the buyer gets on the horse and says "Giddy-yap!" and yanked at the horse's reins, but the horse wouldn't move. "You have to say Halelujia," said the man. The buyer rolls his eyes and says, "Halelujia!." And off the horse went like lightening. Then he said, "Whooooah...whooaah." The man who wanted to sell the horse then hollered, "You have to say Praise the Lord!" and the buyer quickly remembered, nodded his head and exclaimed, "Praise the Lord!" and the horse screeched to a stop. This is grrrrreaaat thought the buyer and went riding across the field hollering Halelujia and Praise the Lord. After sometime he saw that the horse was speeding towards a cliff that fell over a 100 ft. below. Filled with fear, he says, "Whoooah, whoooah horse, Whoooooah," but the horse only went faster towards the cliff. And then the buyer remembered and said "Halelujia." The horse skidded to a stop right at edge of the cliff. The buyer shakingly looks down and wipes his forehead and says,"Pheeeew!...Praise the Lord!" Morale of the story: You can have the church talk down to a tee and still go over the cliff. Often times we as believers, get caught up into sounding "Christian Like", when in all actually, it is our heart that should be right. We can talk what the bible says, but when it comes down to making it applicable in our lives we find ourselves falling short, or in the case of the buyer, falling over the cliff. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MY MORNING PRAYER by an anonymous Chi Alphan Lord I give to you this day. Let I not be led astray. May not my thoughts or what I say Detract from you in any way. As I go through the daily grind, Reveal to me in soul and mind Your will that you would have me do. Your Holy Spirit fills me through. I pray that those I know and meet Will see in me your love complete. And when I sin, convict my heart, So that we never grow apart. I won't ignore your awesome grace But ever look upon your face. May I not tire of your power. Your works are new to me each hour, This day I place into your hand. I'll worry not; on you I'll stand. ______________________________________________________________________________ I want articles I want articles I want articles I want...
