It's not to save trees (email doesn't require paper, just a lot of CFCs), it's to save you the monotony of reading the same thing over and over and over and over again. So, instead of expecting it every two weeks, it will show up whenever something new happens. If there are any new announcements or any articles, I'll send it out. Otherwise, I'll just let the week slide by. ----------------- | ANNOUNCEMENTS | ----------------- NEW PLACE, NEW TIME, OLD FACES ------------------------------ First of all, this coming Friday, February 7, we will be meeting at an alternate location. Instead of Kuykendall, meet at Kanewai Park (that's the public park next to the oxidized Hawaiian Studies building behind the Hale Noelani apartments across the Manoa tributar---I mean---stream). We will be situated at the street end of the park (that's the patch of grass bordered by the swimming pool, benches, basketball court, and bathrooms). There will be volleyball, tennis, basketball, and especially food. Games start at 5:00 pm (or thereabouts), worship starts at 7:00 pm. It's a new moon, so flashlights would be helpful. Also, if you play a musical instrument that doesn't require electricity, bring that too. This is a time for both fellowship and evangelism, so bring a friend. It's a non-threatening fun environment which people can feel comfortable in (but let them know that we'll be talking about God so that they don't feel they've been tricked). FROM UNDER THE STARS TO IN FRONT OF THE STARS --------------------------------------------- Also, once we're finished at Kanewai, we'll be taking a trip to the Waikiki 3 Theatre to watch the newly re-released Star Wars movie, so you can't use "I'm going to see Yoda" as an excuse for not coming (besides, Yoda doesn't appear until the second movie). SMALL GROUPS -- OASIS IN THE DESERT ----------------------------------- Small group are beginning this week. They are slated for the following times: Women: Thursdays, 7:30 pm, Wainani F-1502, Facilitators: Claire and Amy (957-1511) (Meet in the Wainani F lounge at 7:25 if you need to be keyed up). Men: Mondays, 4:30 pm, Wainani F-402, Facilitator: Tim (957-1493) (Meet in the Wainani F lounge at 4:25 if you need to be keyed up). Wednesday, 12:30 pm, Hemenway 216, Facilitator: Justin (955-4914) (Or we might be in Hememway 215 or 217 so look around for us). I would strongly recommend attending one of the small groups if it fits into your schedule. Small groups are a time when we can get to know one another better. It's a time when we can share with each other those things that are troubling us each day in our shaky walk. It's a time when we can sing together, read together, pray together, and support each other without worrying about the numbers and framework of the Friday meeting. I believe it is essential for our spiritual growth. LETTING THE CAMPUS KNOW WE'RE HERE ---------------------------------- Tonight (Monday, the 3rd) we're having another flyer posting sweep. Meet at Chi Alpha corner (between Wainani F and I) at 6:30 pm with staple guns in hand. THE CAMPUS CENTER FROLIC ------------------------ It's Battle of the Christian Bands II and Frolic like a Heifer is one of those featured. Catch them at lunch time on Monday, February 10, at Campus Center. There will be several bands there; Frolic will probably be playing some time around 11:30 am. BOOKTABLE --------- Booktable hours have been set. Weedo Pasquali and the gang will be there on the second floor of Campus Center every Monday from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. LOVE IS IN THE AIR ------------------ And for those of you who have been in a cave the last couple of weeks, our very own Joel and Amy got enganged on January 25 (they can tell you the story). Those us who are single, let's embarasss them so that we can stop all this nonsense with Chi Alpha couples (ONLY KIDDING!) :) BABIES OF FEBRUARY ------------------ Chris Kihlstrom Feb. 7 Amy Fung Feb. 15 _______________________________________________________________________________ ------------ | FEATURES | ------------ HUMOR -- BIBLE STUDIES THAT ARE GAWDAFUL FUNNY Real answers to a Bible knowledge test. Taken from Ann Landers in the Honolulu Advertiser, 1/24/97. Originally printed in the Vancouver Sun: 1:Noah's wife was Joan of Ark. 2:Lot's wife was a pillar of salt by day and a ball of fire by night. 3:Moses went to the top of Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Commandments. 4:The 7th commandment is "Thou shalt not admit adultery." 5:Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of Geritol. 6:Jesus was born because Mary had an immaculate contraption. 7:The people who followed Jesus were called the 12 Decibels. 8:The epistles were the wives of the apostles. 9:One of the opossums was St. Matthew. 10:Salome danced in seven veils in front of King Harrod's. 11:Paul preached acrimony, which is another name for marriage. 12:David fought the Finklesteins, a race of people who lived in Biblical times. 13:A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony. Isn't it great that we know the truth. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUCCESS, GOD'S WAY If we are going to be successful and deal wisely in the affairs of life, we have to seek wisdom. How do we receive God's wisdom and success? FROM HIS WORD! "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for THEN thou shalt make they way prosperous and THEN THOU SHALT HAVE GOOD SUCCESS." (Joshua 1:8) One key to success for the Christian is realizing who we really are in Christ. For example, we need to realize that we are a spirit; we possess a soul and we live in a body. "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole SPIRIT and SOUL and BODY be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:23 When we read the Word of God we feed our spirit and by so doing we are able to deal wisely with the affairs of life! _______________________________________________________________________________ Expect the next issue sometime in the future. I don't know when because I'm going to try and spare you the monotony of reading the same material over and over and o----(mmmff!).
