It is no problem to remove you from the mailing list. I won't be offended; I'd rather not trouble anyone with unsolicited mail since I know what a pain that is. Some of you may have agreed to be on the list because you didn't want to disappoint me when I so surreptitiously asked you at one of our meetings. So, here's your chance to say no without feeling bad. I swear, it won't bother me a bit, but I need to know. Just send an email that says "Ritchard, please remove me from the mailing list," and you can consider it done. Now, let's sing together: "Should all acquaintance be forgot, and remembered the next year/ Except for those you'd rather not, from them we must stay clear." Happy new year to all of you. I know this first letter of '96 is quite late in getting out, which means I had to make it extra long to make up for lost time. It doesn't contain articles yet, but I WILL be expecting them to start appearing in the next newsletter in a couple of weeks (hint, hint, hint, hint). ----------------- | ANNOUNCEMENTS | ----------------- First, the ongoing stuff which will appear here once and remembered for the rest of the semester. AND WE ALL MEET TOGETHER ------------------------ Our general meeting time and place has not changed. It is still Friday nights at 7:00 in Kuykendall 210. Small group meetings have changed however. The women's small group, facilitated by Eliza and Amy, meets in the Lokelani Tower room 451 Thursday nights at 7:30. Those who come should meet in the lobby at 7:25 so you can be keyed up to the room. The men's small group, facilitated by yours truly, meets Monday afternoons at 5:00 in Wainani I lounge. BOOKTABLE -- A GREAT PLACE FOR EVANGELISM ----------------------------------------- Booktable hours are the same as last semester: Monday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm across from Kampus Korner in Campus Center. Stop by and say hi. Or better yet, if you can help out during those times, contact Joel. FRIENDS, ROMANS, COUNTRYMEN, LEND ME YOUR BOOKS ----------------------------------------------- On a related note, how can you have a good booktable without good books? Unlike UH, we are actually building up OUR library. If you have some old Christian books or tracts which are in good shape and are no longer needed, please contribute to our booktable. They can be on any subject applicable to old Christians, new Christians, or non-believers on a college level (in other words, no picture books). But only donate them if you're prepared to lose them forever. Although our books are technically on a "rent-only" basis, they usually don't get returned by the people we lend them out to. If you have some material to give away, see Stacey, our new Treasurer/Librarian. ARTICLES -------- Furthermore, how can you have a good newsletter without good articles? This plea will come up several times during the semester. I would like to have articles for this newsletter. They can be about anything you want. If you have something, send them to me at rshadian@Hawaii.Edu. PRAY OUR WAY THROUGH THE DAY ---------------------------- Prayer meetings are being held Thursdays at noon on the Hemenway Lanai. ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR CHRISTIAN ----------------------------- Friday afternoons at 2:30, Pastor Kelly Hildebrand from Hope Chapel Honolulu will be leading an investigative Bible study on the book of Romans. It will meet in Campus Center. ARE YOU ON THE WEB? ------------------- There is a page on our XA Hawaii World Wide Web site where I list every member's name. If some of you have a personal web page, send me the URL and I will include the link on our homepage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That said and done, let's go to other matters: KEN DEW, KEN DEW, THIS MAN SAYS THAT CHRIST CAN DO -------------------------------------------------- Okay, I admit that heading is sort of tacky. Anyway, a collegaite missionary, Ken Dew, will be having several events on campus during the week which are aimed at evangelism and Christian unity. Here's the schedule: Wednesday: Christian rally 7:00 pm at HIG Auditorium Thursday: Creation/evolution discussion 12:00 pm at Campus Center Courtyard Christian rally 7:00 pm at HIG auditorium Friday: Evangelistic Outreach --- Topic: Love, Sex, and Dating in the 90s Non-believers welcome 7:00 at HIG Auditorium Because of the event on Friday night, THE CHI ALPHA MEETING FOR THIS FRIDAY (1/26) WILL BE RELOCATED TO THE HAWAII INSTITUTE OF GEOPHYSICS (HIG) AUDITORIUM SITUATED ACROSS FROM KUYKENDALL, NEXT TO SAKAMAKI. Please show up on Friday and bring your non-Christian friends. Also, if you can, turn out for the rallys and for the creation/evolution discussion to lend your support. THE MOST WATCHED SPORTING EVENT OF THE YEAR ------------------------------------------- Come out and join us on Super Bowl Sunday, January 28th, to cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers on to victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX. Pre-game show starts at 1:00 pm. One of the members from Hope Chapel Honolulu, Ian Chang, has invited all of us to a party at his house in Tantalus starting at 12:00 noon. However, he needs to know how many from Chi Alpha will show up because there is going to be a lot of people there and he needs to know how much food to buy. The menu includes quesidillas, teri burgers, and chips & salsa, plus two big screen TVs to watch the action on. The cost is $5.00 per person which can be paid on Sunday, but he has to have a list of who is coming before Thursday. So, if you want to go, contact Joel BEFORE Thursday. Sorry for the late notice. MOVIE NIGHT ----------- After the meeting this Friday (1/26), we will be going to see the film Mr. Holland's Opus, a PG movie starring Richard Dryfuss, about a music teacher. It has received good reviews and is considered the best movie so far in this young year. If you plan on going, remember to bring $6.50 for the ticket. POTLUCK AT STACEY'S ------------------- On Saturday, February 3, Stacey will be hosting a potluck at her house. All are invited. GO WORSHIP ON THE MOUNTAIN -------------------------- Roughly scheduled for Saturday, February 17, is a hike followed by worship. We don't yet know where, but stay tuned. BORN TO BRING IN THE YEAR ------------------------- Flover Cabanilla 1/27 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That does it. Remember to send in those articles. Announcements get really boring, really fast.
