Let’s work our way up to “The Nutz”.

An example hand of cards where the high card is an Ace and the other cards include a ten, six, five, and two.

High Card

The person with the highest card will win, Ace (the highest) through the number two (the lowest). In the event of a tie, the second highest card is considered, and so on.

 

One Pair

Any two cards with the same number/picture value. Highest pair value wins. If two people have the same pair, consider the high card.

Two Pair

Any two sets of pairs (two cards with the same number/picture value). The highest pair wins. If there is a tie with the highest pair, then who ever has the highest second pair wins. If there is a tie with both pairs, the last additional card decides who wins.

 

Triple (Trips)

Any three cards with the same number/picture value. Highest set of three cards wins.

Straight

Any five cards in consecutive order, with Aces counted as a one, or as a high card. Highest card in straight is considered.

 

Flush

Any five cards with all the same suit (all clubs, spades, diamonds, or hearts). High card determines winner.

Full House (House)

Any combination of one pair and one triple. Highest triple wins.

 

Four of a Kind (Quads)

Any four cards with the same number/picture value. Highest value four of a kind wins.

Straight Flush

A set of five consecutive cards, all of the same suit. Highest card in straight determines winner in the event of a tie.

 

Royal Flush (The Nutz)

An Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and ten all of the same suit. This is the BEST hand in Poker, also known as the nutz. If someone else also has a royal flush, then I’m sorry, but you have to split the pot.
