The area that interests me the most is Computer Networks closely followed by Software Testing. While I was working in my Master's degree I was an active member of the Advanced Networks Computing Laboratory (ANCL). I still feel as part of the ANCL team. While I was an active member of ANCL I attended Networld+Interop three times, once in Las Vegas(1998) and twice in Atlanta (1998 and 1999). Working as an ITM for N+I gave us the experience of building the largest mobile network in the world. We learned a lot and were able to network with important people from the most successful telecommunication companies in the world. I must say that we owe this experience to Brian Chee, our mentor.

I wrote a paper in Gigabit Networks while taking ICS691 with  Dr. Edo Biagioni. This is a very informative paper in gigabit networking. The fact that must be taken into consideration is that this paper was written in 1998 when gigabit networking was in its earliest stages.

My thesis is about networks as well. I developed software to simulate a training environment similar to the one that I enjoyed in ANCL. Given that a lot of "computer people" are shy and rather learn by themselves NETLAB is the perfect tool for them. NETLAB allows the student to learn about network configuration without having to set foot in a networking laboratory and without the risk of crashing any expensive equipment. After my thesis defense, Xin Chen continued working with NETLAB. He removed bugs and added some new features.  The proposal for the NETLAB project, as well as Xin Chen's page will give the reader more detailed  information in the project.

My interest in software testing began when I was working for Spirent communications as a Test Engineer. I worked there for a year and a half. I was the main  tester for network protocol emulation. I became very familiar with protocols such as BGP, MPLS (both with RSVP-TE and CR-LDP), IS-IS, OSPF and PING as well as with many issues regarding software testing and the inevitable question "How much testing is enough"? . I would also like to find out what else testers can do in order to improve software quality without being intrusive.

I'm currently working on my PhD in Communication and Information Systems and active looking for a dissertation topic.

I love teaching. I had been teaching for the Information and Computer Sciences department  of the University of Hawaii since the summer of 1998. I teach ICS111 and ICS211. I hope to keep on teaching for a long, long time...
