Requirements for Waterbirds Group Project

Steps 1-6: Research Process

1. Brainstorm what you already know about the waterbird.

2. Brainstorm what you want to know about the waterbird.

3. Using your brainstorming lists, divide your ideas into categories (e.g. Food, Habitat, Characteristics, etc.)

4. Conference with teacher.

5. Go to the school and/or public libraries to find information on your waterbird (I will give you some class time to go to our school library).

6. Sort through your information. Read and take notes for the various categories that you wish to explore.

Steps 7-19: Publishing Process

7. Brainstorm ideas for writing and illustrating your "published" book. The book can be written in any way and may be illustrated however you wish. The only requirements are: 1) 75% of the book must be factual information and 2) everyone must contribute a piece of writing with illustrations. BE CREATIVE!

8. Select one idea from your list.

9. Conference with teacher.

10. Write the first draft of book.

11. Conference with other members of your group.

12. Conference with teacher.

13. Rewrite your first draft.

14. Conference with other members of your group.

15. Conference with teacher.

16. Edit your rewrite.

17. Conference with other members of your group.

18. Conference with teacher.

19. "Publish" book.

Steps 20-25: Presentation Process

20. Brainstorm ideas on how to present what you learned about your waterbird to the rest of the class. BE CREATIVE!

21. Select idea(s).

22. Conference with teacher.

23. Make a list of all the things that you need to do in order to prepare for your presentation.

24. Do whatever is needed for your presentation.

25. Present your wealth of knowledge to the rest of the class! Remember, you are EXPERTS now!
