art
THIS! started out as a group project for Art 301, Expanded Arts II,
taught by Peter Chamberlain
in the Fall 1998 semester at the University of Hawai'i. There was
a need: the need to get people to respect us as art students in Hawai'i
and the need to find a job with this art degree once we graduate.
One way to do these things is to unite us as art students, consolidate
our information, and get our work out to the public while the real world
is just a few semesters at bay. This is what art THIS! will
do:
-
provide
a forum for art students to discus issues concerning the art curriculum
at the university
-
consolidate
information about internships, scholarships, jobs, and businesses which
are willing to purchase student work or exhibit them for free
-
exhibit
student work periodically
-
provide
a means for art students to critique each other's work
-
change
as an organization as the needs of art students change

Many art student unions have
come and gone here at the UH Art Department, but we hope that this time
it will be different. Right now, art THIS! is trying to become
an official organization here in the university, working through the RIO,
Registered Independent Organization, application form which has a lot of
details to work out. One of those important details is a mission
statement. Here is one:
To provide a vehicle
for addressing the rights and dealing with the needs of UH art students.
Tell us what you think.
If it looks good on paper, then help us make it work off the paper (or
off the web in this case).
