These are scholarships given through the University of Hawai’i of Manoa Art Department.  For complete information and required forms please inquire at the art office.

For Undergraduates-
 
 
The Jean Charlot Foundation Scholarship                                           $350
The scholarship awardee will be selected by portfolio review.  The main emphasis of the portfolio should be on quality of composition and execution in drawing and drawing related media (i.e. printmaking, painting). Applicant must be a full time student, have at least 60 credit hours of course work and a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Chinese Bicentennial Art Award                                                          $100
The scholarship awarded will be selected by portfolio review and given to the outstanding student in our studio programs.

The Geraldine P. Clark Memorial Fellowship  2 each $2,500
Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in studio art with a specialization in either glass or painting.  The awardee will be selected on the basis of the artistic achievement as demonstrated by a portfolio review and the academic merit of the proposal with a justification for how the award funds would be spent.  Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals in which a substantial part of the award would be spent on education outside of the state for periods up to a semester.  The application must be accompanied with three faculty letters of recommendation.  Different application for glass.

David H. and Doris C. Crowell Award   $100
The scholarship will be awarded to the outstanding figure sculpture by portfolio review.

Sibyl Heide Glass Grant Fund Award   $1,000
The Heide glass grant fund is a $1,000 cash award towards special projects, and/or tuition for workshops or educational programs.  Funds may be used to cover the cost of materials, supplies, equipment, airfare and tuition in order to execute the project.  Submit a detailed narrative description, drawings of the project and a budget along with your portfolio.

The Kenneth (Kenny) Hewett Jr. Memorial Scholarship 
Two scholarships, one in athletics and one in art, were established in the memory Kenneth Hewett Jr., who was a student in the Department of Art and a member of the football team at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  Whenever possible, preference will be given to graduates of Kamehameha School.  Selection will be based upon academic achievement, artistic ability and promise.  Financial need may also be a consideration.  The selection will be made by the Chairman of the Department upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee.

The Honolulu Printmakers Scholarship For Excellence   $200         In Printmaking
The undergraduate scholarship awarded will be selected by portfolio review. The main emphasis for this scholarship will be on printmaking or printmaking related art works, including the traditional printmaking madia of intaglio, lithography, screenprinting and relief printing, as well as mixed media prints. 5-10 art works should be submitted for the portfolio review.

The Horan Scholarship   $250
The scholarship is awarded by portfolio review for excellence in ceramic arts and for academic achievement.

Keichi Kimura Scholarship   $1,000
Applicant muct be an undergraduate or graduate student who is a descendant of Hawaii plantation worker(s).  Preference will be given to a student  whose work demonstrates a concern for local culture.

The Craig Kojima Scholarship In
Photography/Photojournalism   $1,000
The scholarship will be awarded to a Hawaii resident enrolled full or part-time in a gradute or undergraduate program at UH Manoa. Preference will be given to students with an interest and commitment to photojournalism. If no photojournalism students apply, then the scholarship may be given to the best qualified applicant in photography as dtermined by a portfolio review. Academic merit and financial need may also be a factor.

Shore Hodge Lipsher Memorial Scholarship   $350
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Shore Lipsher,  Professor of  Fiber Arts. The award will be made by the Chairman of the Department, upon recommendation of the Scholarship Committee and Professor Lipsher's heirs. Eligible students must be declared art majors and have full-time status and upperclass standing.

The Student Opportunity Fund   Four @ $2,860 ea.
Hawaii High School Graduate, 3.0 GPA, majoring in painting, photography or sculpture, some degree of financial need.

Diane Sullivan Memorial Schlaorship   $1,400
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Diane Sullivan, an art major, and is for excellence in visual arts. The award will be selected by portfolio review. Restricted to full-time art majors entering their junior or senior year with a minimum of GPa of 3.0 in art courses. For the 1998-99 academic year.

The Elsa Takasue Memorial Scholarship   $500
The Elsa Takasue Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 by the family and friends. The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student and is based on talent in the fiber arts, future goals, and financial need. Use Fiber's Hui of Hawaii application form and return material directly to them.

For Graduates-
 

The Harue McVay Graduate Scholarship in Art              three $1960
To provide scholarships in sculpture, ceramics, glass, and fiber for continuing full time grad students.  Portfolio  and two letters of recommendation from former teachers or other professionals who know their work well.  All application and letters due April 1, 1998.

The H. John  Heide Fellowship in Art            $5000 for 1998-99 academic year
Current grad students who will be a full time student through May 1999 are eligible.  Portfolio and three letters of recommendation required.  For art history majors a recent research paper may replace the portfolio requirement.  All application and letters due April 1, 1998.

Graduates may also apply for the Clark, Heide, Kimura, Kojima, and Takasue scholarships.
