These are pictures I took on Aug, 2004 from my house as I faced Osaka. The entire region of Osaka, Kobe Kyoto, Nara, etc. is known as the Kansai area of Japan. It is well known for its down-to-earth people and distinct accent. Osaka is barely visible in the distance because it was a cloudy day. At night, you can see the city lights and the sight is truly beautiful. It's also possible to see the lights of airplanes landing at Osaka International Airport which is located at left. During the rush hour at about 8 in the evening, planes circle over the city to land at the airport.
Although it's barely noticeable in the picture, you can see Rohko Island, a man-made island with one of the most modern port facilities in the world. The island is host to warehouses, international schools, high rise apartments and fashion companies. A great place to spend a day with your girlfriend.....You also must go to an international school (Canadian Academy) over there to take the GRE Physics Examination.
Another man-made island built by the city of Kobe...It's called Port Island and nicknamed "Portopia". High rise apartments and shopping centers occupy the island and it is noted for its proximity to downtown. Also, the city is building an airport just behind the island and there's the Kansai International Airport(KIX) across the bay. KIX was built on Osaka Bay and is used for overseas flights. Too bad it's not visilble in the the picture. So in all, there're 3 airports in the Kansai area alone.
