General Information
Because physics is an experimental science, laboratories are an integral part of the
learning experience.
Students are required to learn working in a
laboratory setting with skill and professionalism. For further information
regarding policies and syllabus, refer to the laboratory manual which could be purchased
at the bookstore. The syllabus is contained in Chapter 1. Enrollment in Phys 151L requires
concurrent registration in Phys 151 lecture.
Section 02(Group II) Time & Place:
PSB Room108/110, Monday 2:30 to 5:30
All lab notebooks are due the following lab session. There is no
longer extra credit for submitting lab notebooks early; therefore, two lab notebooks
are required.
Section 06(Group II) Time & Place:
PSB Room108/110, Wednesday 11:30 to 2:30
All lab notebooks must be turned in the following lab session. There is no
longer extra credit for submitting lab notebooks early; therefore, two lab notebooks

Announcements

Announcement for Oct 04(Mon): There has been a major mistake in the schedule
concerning Phys151L Section-02(Mon). The Physics Dept wrongly told me that Section-02 was
Group I, but, in fact, Section-02 also belonged in Group II. I was teaching 2 different labs in one week,
but, from now, both sections will be doing the same experiments. To see the correct lab
scehdule, 1)see above or 2)page ix of the lab manual under the heading Group II. I apologize
for the confusion. However, there will be
a quiz and the lab on Air Track on Oct 04 Monday for Section-02 as scheduled.
Concerning Section-06 (Wed), the 20-pt quiz was cancelled, because I asked the head TA and he told
me that it was too hard. It will not be included in the scoring of your final grade. I will announce whether
to have another quiz in class. Of course, that is if you want one. In additionn,
the quiz for Oct 6(Wed) will be on Pendulum, not Air Track. It will be a 10-point quiz as usual and
will cover materials from the lab manual. Also, information from the text will help you reinforce your
knowledge on the subject. It will be quite hard, so please read the manual and related materials
well and come to the lab prepared.
-
Announcement for Sept 20(Mon): The schedule was updated and includes all the
labs for the remaining semester. They will become more complex and
time consuming, so come to the labs well prepared. Because the labs are much longer than those
of earlier chapters,
there will be no more quizzes after Chapter 6 (Pendulum & Air Track).
-
Announcement for Sept 13(Mon): For Sections 02 and 06, all data must be entered in the lab manual
and signed by the TA before leaving the laboratory. Early leave is permitted only after the notebook is signed by
by TA. Unsigned notebooks will have reduced scores.
In addition, it is patent that many students don't read the lab manual properly before coming to
class. Assignments will become progressively harder and the TA will not
have time to help every one of you.

Announcement for Aug 30(Mon):
For Section 02(Mon), we did 2 experiments in one lab session, so skip:
Chapter 3: Procedure 4,5(page23) and Question 5(page 25). The lab reports for Chapters 2,3 are
due Sept 13.
For both Sections 02 & 06, there will definitely be quizes on Chapters 2 and 3, but I don't know
about the other chapters. There may be a quiz on Chapter 4, but I haven't decided yet. I want to see how things go.

Week of Aug 30: There has been a change in schedule for Section 02(Group I) Mon because of the Labor Day
weekend. For the week of Aug 30, Section 02 will do Chapter 2 as homework and Chapter 3 in the lab. There
will be no lab on the week of Sept 06, but there will be a quiz on the week of Sept 13 on Chapters 2 and 3. Sorry
about that.
For Section 06(Group II) Wed, things will run according to schedule.
-
Week of Aug 23: This week is an introductory session and requires no preparation.
For those who were not able to register and signed the sheet I passed around in the
lab, I gave it to the dept secretary and she did input your names into the system. However,
do not forget to register on MyUH Portal!!
I told some of you that I will be emailing you individually but that takes too much time. So
I'll post all the info over here.
