Jeffrey Weiss Literary Award Competition
Theatre Historical Society of America
The Jeffrey Weiss Literary Award was established in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Elias Weiss of New York in memory of their son Jeffrey, who had a lifelong interest in movie theatres and organs and was a member of THS from 1974 until his untimely death in 1982. Mr. and Mrs. Weiss endowed an annual award competition to honor and perpetuate the memory of their son. It further serves to encourage interest in research and writing about historic theatres and to provide suitable material for submission to Marquee®, the quarterly journal of the Society.
The award prizes are:
1st Prize: $500
2nd Prize: $300
3rd Prize: $100
The Theatre Historical Society of America invites submission
of papers consisting of original research on aspects of American theatres relevant to our
specific areas of interest (architecture, decoration, equipment, history or operation).
Inclusion of photographs and/or illustrations is particularly encouraged.
The competition is open to anyone. Winning entries are
submitted for publication in Marquee®, the Society's quarterly
journal.
The submission deadline for this year's
competition is:
December 31,
2009
