Theatre Historical Society of America
Hours of
operation are: Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and most third Saturdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Call to reconfirm third Saturdays.) Visitors may tour the Museum at any time during these hours without an appointment. There is no admission charge, although donations are gratefully accepted. A telephone call to confirm your visit in advance is recommended. Research in the Archive is by advance appointment only. Research fees apply. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Executive Director, Richard Sklenar.
The organization's
headquarters, including the American Theatre Architecture Archive, and the American Movie
Palace Museum are all located in the historic York Theatre building, 152 North York
Street, Second floor, Elmhurst, Illinois (approximately 16 miles West of Chicago's

To reach THSA by car:
From downtown Chicago: Take I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway) west; exit at York Street, turn right and go south; when the street becomes one-way, turn right and park in metered parking.
From O'Hare Airport: Take I-294 (Tri-State Tollway) south to North Avenue. Exit North Avenue west-bound; proceed to York Street; turn left and go south two blocks on York Street until it becomes one-way; turn right and park in metered parking.
To reach THSA by public transportation
(commuter train) from downtown Chicago:
Take the METRA Union Pacific/West Line train from the Ogilvie Transportation Center (formerly Northwestern Railway Chicago Passenger Terminal), 600 West Madison Street at Canal Street, to Elmhurst. The one-way regular adult fare is approximately $3.50 and the trip takes about 35 minutes. Departures from Chicago are generally at 40 minutes past the hour and from Elmhurst generally at 13 minutes past the hour. For current schedules and fares, check the METRA website or telephone them at (312) 322-6777 weekdays or (312) 836-7000 evenings and weekends.
On arrival at Elmhurst station, exit the train, walk about 50 yards to the rear to York Street and turn left, crossing the tracks. The York Theatre is about one and a half blocks away, on the left side of street. The entrance to THS is to the immediate right of the theatre entrance.
PLEASE NOTE: The Theatre Historical Society is on the second floor of the York Theatre building, and is accessed by a steep stairway. Unfortunately, there is no
elevator and it is not wheelchair or disability-accessible.
