Library Employment:

Library Assistant
Alaska State Library, Juneau, Alaska, May 2002-present.
As a participant in this statewide project, I assist with selection of images reflecting a range of Alaska history and culture. I collect the images from the State Library Historical Collections, scan and balance images in Photoshop. We then describe the items using a varity of sources and upload them to the database. The results may be viewed here: http://vilda.alaska.edu. The next phase of the project will include documents and video.

Reference Librarian
Egan Library, University of Alaska Southeast, January 2003-present.
Duties: Assist and instruct library users about library's electronic databases, various Internet search engines and directories, and the Capital City Libraries' online catalog. Use these, along with print materials, to answer library users' inquiries and help them find appropriate sources of information. Assist at the Circulation Desk, on occasion, particularly with check-in/check-out of library resources and opening/closing procedures. Work cooperatively with student assistants. Special projects, as assigned.

Reference Intern
Hamilton Library, University of Hawaii at Manoa, August 2002-December 2002.
Duties: Provide reference services at Hamilton Central Information Services desk, a busy, multi-disciplinary library; perform assigned projects related to reference service in a collaborative collegiate organization structure.
Sinclair Library, University of Hawaii at Manoa, December  2001-December 2002.
Duties: Provide reference services at Sinclair Library reference desk; open, close, and work desk alone; perform assigned projects related to reference service and other projects to assist librarians in music and audio/visual materials.

Video Acquisitions Assistant
Sinclair Library, University of Hawaii at Manoa, May 2002-December 2002.
Duties: Search for video purchase information, research quality of possible video selections, prepare lists of videos on specific subjects, identify Internet selection sources, assist in faculty outreach.

Student Assistant

Duties: Provide reference assistance to patrons, work circulation duties.

Relief Clerk
Juneau Public Library, Juneau, Alaska, summer 2001.
Worked circulation counters in three Juneau public libraries. Light general reference and technical assistance as needed.

Inter-Library Loan Assistant
Forestry Sciences Lab Library, United States forest Service, Juneau, Alaska, October 2000-February 2001.
Duties: Worked from requests submitted from Forest Service employees around the region. Searched OCLC for item and holding libraries. Submitted requests.

Student Assistant

Duties: Assisted patrons with research related activities, checked items in and out, collected fines, and shelved books.
 

Professional Activities and Organizations:

Alaska Library Association, March 2001-present.
Assisted with the 2002 Alaska Library Association Conference in Juneau Alaska. Assisted with displays, registration table, store, silent auction, and special events.

President
University of Hawaii student chapter American Library Association, December 2001-December 2002.
Facilitated and hosted speakers: "What to expect from your first ALA conference," resume workshop (held twice), Libraries post September 11, interviewing workshop, grant writing workshop, and numerous social networking events.
Activities: Co-hosted silent auction at HLA annual conference in September 2002. Assisted with and spoke at new student orientation. Encourage membership in ALA and the Hawaii Library Association. 

Member
University of Hawaii LIS Webteam, June 2001-December 2002.
Conducted survey of student HTML workshop needs. Co-taught series of six introductory HTML workshops. Participated in securing funding for future workshops to be offered off-island. Hosted session at Hawaii Library Association concerning Webteam activities.
