PSEO PROGRAM

GOAL

Upon completion of the Post Secondary Education Opportunities Program (PSEOP), student will exit this HCSA program with the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes which are needed to enter and succeed at post-secondary educational institutions, which include Hawaii Community College and the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
 

OBJECTIVES

To provide quality educational programs designed to meet the needs of students seeking entrance to post-secondary educational programs.
To offer courses in math and reading/writing for the post-secondary educational program.
 

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

PSEOP consists of the academic component and the learning lab, which is mandatory for all students.  Counselors are available to assist students with their academic, counseling, and guidance needs.
 

ACADEMIC COMPONENTS
 
MATH
READING/WRITING
Whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and introduction to algebra and geometry. Vocabulary building, main ideas and supporting details, transitions, patterns of organization, fact / opinion, inferences, purpose / tone, propaganda, argument, writing processes, integration of language arts.

Math $50.00
Reading / Writing  $50.00

Students may re-take either course until requirements are met and pay only for the cost of books.
 

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

Students who successfully complete a class will have met that respective placement test required for entrance to Hawaii Community College and will receive Certificates of Completion.
 

CLASSES OPEN TO...

Those who did not perform at college entry level on the HawCC placement tests and/or those who feel the need to review math or reading/writing before taking the HawCC placement tests or before entering college.
 

REGISTRATION

Register at the Hilo Community School for Adults at the DOE Annex, 450 Waianuenue Ave., Room C-3.  Call 974-4100 for more information.  Classes with insufficient enrollment may be canceled.

Please bring placement test results from Hawaii Community College, if available.
 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Regular and prompt class attendance is expected of all students.  It shall be the students' responsibility to inform the instructor of anticipated or unavoidable absences and to make up work missed as a result of absences.

Any form of academic dishonesty is not acceptable.
