Hilo Community School (HCSA) is one of eleven community
schools for adults in the state of Hawaii. Seven schools are located
on Oahu, one each on Maui and Kauai, and two on the Big Island (Hilo, Kona).
HCSA is part of the Department of Education, State of Hawaii. The
administrative staff is located at DOE Annex, Room C-3. Satellite
sites are located throughout East Hawaii (Honokaa to Naalehu).
HCSA programs are open to any person, 18 years or older,

are not necessary for admission.
The academic year is divided into four terms: FALL (September-December),
WINTER (January-March), SPRING (April-May), SUMMER (June-July). Most
academic courses are conducted twice a week, 2-3 hours per class for a
total of 30-60 hours. General interest courses usually total 10-12

availability of funds. Evening classes meet between 5:30-9:00PM.
Day classes are scheduled between 8:00AM - 3:00PM.
HCSA offers both tuition and tuition free courses.
Charges may also apply for books, lab fees and supplies. All costs
are paid one week before the start of class. No refunds are made
