Step 1: ATTEND MANDATORY SKYPE GROUP INTERNSHIP MEETING.
Step 2: LOCATION SELECTION. Look at the Opportunities Tab (above) and companies from the Animation/Design Firm Contact List (or perform your own web searches for companies). Pick at least 3 places that you are interested in and that you plan to contact.
Step 3: COMPLETE "PREP 1" ASSIGNMENT: Plan of Action Statement, Resume, and Draft Cover Letter. See Instructions/Templates and Submit in appropriate Laulima Assignment.***NOTE: IF you have already secured an internship loaction, YOU MUST STILL COMPLETE & UPLOAD your Plan of Action Statement (as to the steps you took to land your current internship).
Step 4: COMPLETE "PREP 2" ASSIGNMENT: Draft Portfolio/Demo Reel link, Final (Text Only) Cover Letter & Final Designed Resume. Submit into appropriate Laulima Assignments. (TO PREPARE A PDF PORTFOLIO: Go through your work and then choose pieces that you think will best appeal to them, based on the type of work they do. Nicely put together a PDF portfolio, a mini website portfolio, or a demo reel of your work. For internship I suggest doing a PDF and working in InDesign to create it. I suggest using separate pages for each work (but you can show several views of the same piece on that page). I also suggest working in landscape orientation and using minimal design elements to frame your work. Labels should be small and unobstructed—such as this Portfolio Example. ***NOTE: IF you have already secured an internship loaction, YOU MUST STILL COMPLETE & UPLOAD the ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT IN STEP 4. Then YOU MAY SKIP to STEP10.
Step 5: APPLY FOR INTERNSHIP POSITIONS. You ma
Step 6: WAIT FOR RESPONSES. Follow up if necessary with another email or phonecall (waiting a week for responses is typical).
Step 7: SCHEDULE INTERVIEWS. If they express interest, Try to schedule interviews as close together as possible (so that you're in interview mode and in the event they make you offers you can weigh them against each other).
Step 8: INTERVIEW. **Give them a copy of the Industry Handout while you are there, so they become familiar with internship location requirements for our program, as they consider offering you an internship position.
Step 9: ACCEPT OR DECLINE INTERNSHIP OFFERS. AFTER DOING ALL of your interviews and hearing back from all of them, accept or decline internship offers—Don't be pressured into accepting, you can let them know it is required for the course that you wait and discuss your options with your internship instructor prior to making a selection.
Step 10: COMPLETE INTERNSHIP DOCUMENTATION.
