ASSOCIATION OF HAWAII ARCHIVISTS
Board Meeting, 21 December 2007

Present: Ellen Chapman, Barbara Dunn, Laura Gerwitz, Judy Kearney, Pat Ogburn, Helen Wong Smith, Andrew Wertheimer; Excused: Susan Shaner

Helen called the meeting to order at 4:40.
The minutes of the November meeting were approved as corrected.
Laura gave the Treasurer's report - we have $4,731.15 as of November 30.

HOLIDAY SOCIAL: On behalf of the Board, Helen gave hearty thanks to the following people for making the Social a great success:
Barbara Dunn for arranging the excellent food and reasonable cost Pat Ogburn for the donation of paper goods Laura Gerwitz for the donation of bottled water Helen for arranging door prizes Carol Hasegawa and Ellen Chapman for the donation of a portion of
their proceeds from their art sales

PROFESSIONAL EVENT: Also on behalf of the Board, Helen thanked Dr. Chieko Tachihata and Dr. Lorraine Palumbo for their presentation about historic photos of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: Re the Leadership Workshop in June 2008 in Wisconsin, Helen said she will apply and asked the Board to support her. We agreed to do this since what she learns will have an impact on AHA and on the archives profession in Hawaii. Helen will draft a letter for us, outlining the benefits of the workshop.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE
VENUE: Laura will pay the deposit for using the YWCA meeting room and will inquire about catering possibilities and menus for the Board to consider.
PROGRAM: Helen and Andrew form the Program Committee. Andrew will contact Richard Burns, Paula Mochida, and Shari Tamashiro. Helen will contact several other people we discussed earlier.
HONORARIA: We will not offer honoraria, but will not charge
speakers for registration or lunch.
FEES: AHA members who register by January 20 will pay $40; members who register after that date will pay $50; all non-members will pay $50; except students will pay $35 which includes 2008 AHA membership (Andrew will notify LIS students). All the above include lunch.

OFFICERS, 2008: The nominating committee chaired by Jim Cartwright has proposed names for the Vice-President/President Elect and three Board members. We agreed that the nominees were good choices and we recommend he add Susan Campbell to the list. Ellen will contact Jim when he returns from vacation next week to tell him: we approved of the nominees; that we would like him to concentrate on people who have not yet served as officers; and that the VP/Pres Elect position be filled before the Board positions.

NEWSLETTER: The next newsletter should contain information the Annual Conference; Winter Social; AHA T-shirt (to sell at the Conference - Helen to supply details); and a change in the By-laws whereby only one person needs to sign checks for amounts of $499 or less (either President or Treasurer).

The meeting was adjourned at 5:50.
