Minutes of the July meeting were accepted as corrected.
PROFESSIONAL EVENTS
Helen will write a thank-you letter to Sam and Mary Cooke for
hosting AHA at the Manoa Heritage Center on July 29. She asked that those
who attended give her some salient details about the event.
Helen reported on her "Persistence of Memory" presentation just
before this meeting. She will put it on her website and ask Andrew to create a link to it from the AHA website.
Ellen will find out the dates of the Academy's Ossipoff exhibit [Hawaii Modern: the Architecture of Vladimir Ossipoff/ 29 Nov. 2007 - 27 Jan. 2008] and will determine who would be appropriate to give us a tour of the
exhibit with information about the research and use of archival sources.
Andrew will contact the filmmaker creating a documentary on Ossipoff to
give a presentation to AHA.
Barbara reported that Chieko Tachihata is ready to give a
presentation about the Honpa Hongwanji Temple photographs she
has been working on. We tentatively decided on October 20; Barbara will
see if this ok with Chieko.
ANNUAL MEETING: Andrew will investigate the possibility of UH Manoa venues, although it's likely they would not allow us to meet there if we charged attendees a fee. UH won't make reservations more than two months in advance. Helen will inquire of Kamehameha Schools (they have a catering service) and will ask about the Ko'olau Golf Course in Kaneohe. Everyone keep your eyes open for other possibilities.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Jim Cartwright and Linda Soma agreed to be the Nominating Committee for next years' officers.
NEWSLETTER: It will include: information about the Holiday Social, nomination solicitations for the Aggie Award, Jim Cartwright's report on his archives workshop for religious organizations, and an article expressing concern about the endangered collections at Mission Houses (Helen will draft it for Board review).
SCHOLARSHIP: We discussed a scholarship to support registration fees for AHA members attending SAA continuing education sessions. We could set a maximum amount, but the amount actually awarded would depend on several circumstances. Recipients would be required to make a presentation about the sessions to the AHA membership. We should give the scholarship a name. More discussion at the next meeting.
HOLIDAY SOCIAL: Barbara will be meeting with caterer Paul Onishi at the Queen Emma Summer Palace to see if the kitchen is suitable. She will fill out the application and pay the $100 fee right away to reserve the space.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:25pm.
