Helen called the meeting to order at 5:25.
Minutes of the February meeting were accepted as written.
Laura gave the Treasurer's report as of the end of March and included details of income and expenditures for the annual conference. The ending balance is $7,185.47; more bills have yet to be paid for the conference.
Susan gave each of us two items to unanimous acclaim:
NEW OFFICERS: Helen distributed the proposed slate of new officers; all
were approved unanimously.
DUES: Membership fees for 2007 are due now - $15. This will appear in the next newsletter.
ANNUAL MEETING:
The 2007 annual meeting was described and discussed; Pat and Barbara
will write a report on the meeting for the Newsletter.
At the 2007 meeting, the group decided to meet at the same venue in
2008 and the Pu'u O Hoku Ranch on Molokai was booked for Presidents Day
weekend.
We discussed the possibility of having a joint meeting with the Hawaii
chapters of SLA and Museum Association. We tentatively decided to have one
day for cultural activities and two days for professional programs. We
would have a two-tiered fee structure for people who wanted to attend only
the latter or the full three days. Helen will calculate approximate fees
and ask members for a preliminary indication of attendance.
The annual meeting program could be a continuation of our professional programs throughout the year, concentrating on the statewide digital
initiative that is developing. Susan mentioned the digital partnerships
the State Archives has with the UH Law Library and Alu Like.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS: (Send other proposals and comments on the proposals below to Helen.)
ARCHIVES CLEARINGHOUSE: Kanani reported that a private party may be willing to fund a survey of all cultural and archival institutions in the state, one result of which may be an online clearinghouse. She will provide further information as it becomes available.
DISTANCE EDUCATION: Let Judy know of any opportunities for the Newsletter. SAA and ALA have online courses and workshops.
COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS: Helen will discuss with the local SLA and HMA presidents the possibility of collaborating on a community workshop such as we had on Lanai. It may be that we can raise some income from this type of activity.
CHURCH ARCHIVES: We approved Jim Cartwright's proposal to conduct archives workshops for small, unaffiliated churches in Honolulu. We suggested that the fee be $25 to cover our costs and the supplies given to each attendee.
HAWAII MEDICAL LIBRARY RESOLUTION: Queens has not yet rescheduled a meeting. Helen will contact them to set up an appointment and will attend with Kanani. Kanani will contact Queens to schedule a meeting.
AHA IDENTITY: Helen will choose 4 promotional items available commercially to carry the AHA name and logo and ask the Board to choose one to sell to members. If you have any other ideas, please let her know.
HOLIDAY SOCIAL: We tentatively decided on the first week of December and discussed a variety of venues. Pat Ogburn will call the Willows and others were asked to gather information for venues they knew about. We will send out a call to for nominations for the "Aggie Award."
AHA ARCHIVES: Last year's officers (Kananai, Laura, Ellen) should bring their annual reports and pertinent files to the next meeting so that Ellen can send them to the AHA Archives at BYU-H. If you need to keep some of your material for current and future use, please make copies for the Archives.
NEXT MEETING: Friday, May 18, 5:15pm, Linekona. There will be no meeting in June.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:46pm
Respectfully submitted,
Ellen Chapman, Secretary
