Types of records and record hierarchy:

authority
bib
holdings (mfhd = MARC format for holdings data)
item

Searching:

selecting a record will bring up the MARC editing screen
keyword (and key name)
non-keyword (browse author, title, etc.)
STAFF searches retrieve all records, including suppressed ones
OPAC searches do not retrieve suppressed records
original system no. (CARL bid no. will be in 035 subfield 9)
keyword search CARL0001234567 (10 digits with leading zeroes)
non-keyword search: original system no. (same format as above)
bib, authority, holdings, item record no.
WebVoyage (OPAC view, does not retrieve suppressed records)

Display:

banner (record type, ID no. and title)
option bar (keyboard equivalent with alt-key is underlined)
icons on toolbar:
(create new record, search, headings/titles, save, holdings, items, associated records)
MARC expanded view buttons (leader, 006, 007, 008)
system tab (option to suppress from OPAC)
history tab (date, operator, location of record creation and last update)

Printing: (file, print record)

Sending on E-mail: (WebVoyage)

Navigating:

scroll bar
page up/down
selection column (grey column to left of tag number column)
row marker symbol (arrow or bullet)
cursor arrow keys (left-right within a line in the subfield area)
cursor (mouse or alt-up/down to point to a new position in the subfield area)
tab (forwards), shift-tab (backwards) keys

Database maintenance:

item records (add, save, edit, move, resequence, delete)
added copy, note, and bound with practice (mention statistical categories)
holdings records (add, save, edit, move, delete)
ref/de-ref practice
bib records
insert (F3/F4), cut (ctrl-x), copy (ctrl-c), paste (ctrl-v), delete (delete key) tag
move tag up or down a row (right mouse click)
insert, replace text
create new subfield (F9)
call no. (change bib and holdings)

Original and preliminary cataloging:

bib records from existing record (record, make a copy)
expanded view (leader, 006, 007, 008)
diacritics entry
valid codes (F2)
copy in a heading
authority validation (highlight, record, validate heading)
templates
bib record from template (create holdings and item records also)

Copy cataloging:

bib records from OCLC or RLIN
bib records from remote library (LC and other Z39.50 sites)

Deleting: (procedure to check if there is acq info is yet to be determined)

must delete items and holdings first
message will appear if an item is checked out or there is an acquisitions record
