DELETING AN IMPORT FILE RECORD

This procedure applies to one or more records exported from a utility or another library OPAC via the web into an import file and the decision was made not to import the record(s) into the Voyager database.

Import files may have names and extensions such as:

catme.dat (from OCLC CatME)
oclc.dat (from OCLC Passport)
pass.sav (from RLIN)
Pwebrecon.cgi (from another library's web OPAC)
rlin.sav (from RLIN)

To delete records from a Voyager workfile, see separate instructions:
http://www2.hawaii.edu/~ruthh/vdelwfr.html

- open the import file
- click 'record'
- click 'import'
- click 'from new file'

- save all other records that are wanted into Voyager
- make sure that only the records to be deleted are left in the file

- open Windows Explorer or My Computer
- go to the folder where the import file is located and open it:
example: c:\voyager\import\
- highlight the file you want to delete
- click 'file', click 'delete'
(or) press the delete key on the keyboard
(or) type alt-F, D on the keyboard
(or) right click the mouse and select the 'delete' option
- answer 'yes' to the prompt:
'are you sure you want to send [filename] to the recylce bin?'

The next time you export a record from a utility or a library, a new import file will be created.

Note: To automatically delete imported records from the import file as you save them to the Voyager database, set 'options' and 'preferences' under the 'general' tab to:

[check] Delete records from import file once saved to database
