Subject: cat copy with donated books

I've just returned from the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries and Archives (PIALA) annual conference in Kosrae, Micronesia, Nov. 16-20.

One of the ideas that came out of the cataloging workshop there was for catalog copy to be inserted in donated books. For books without CIP, old shelflist cards, circ. pocket cards or online catalog record printouts would be most welcome. Most of the people working in libraries in the Pacific Islands have little or no training in cataloging and do not have access to bibliographic utilities or other online library catalogs.

After publicizing HICAT-L to the attendees, we may be seeing some new subscribers along with their questions.
