TRANSFERRING RECORDS FROM OCLC CATME TO VOYAGER
by Ruth Horie, rev. July 30, 2004

1. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer to create a V-import on the C-drive (do this once only)

2. Set up parameters in CatME (do this once only)

click tools, click options

under the 'batch processing' tab:
check 'export' under 'local transactions to perform'
check 'beep when batch is done' under 'online batch options'
check all boxes under 'search keys to retain'
enter '25' (or desired number) under 'maximum number of matches'

under the export tab:
check 'USMARC' under 'export format'
click the 'create' button
click the 'OK' button to accept the 'file' export destination

select directory:
click the down arrow next to the 'look in' box
click drive 'C'
double click Voyager folder
double click Import folder
type 'import' in the filename box
click open

click 'ok' to accept export destination name:
C:\V-import\import.dat
click close

3. Do original cataloging on CatME, update record, logoff

4. Export OCLC records to import.dat file

search CatME bibliographic local file
highlight record(s) to be exported (see note below)
click action, export
click batch, local processing
click export, start
click ok after batch is processed

4. Import records to Voyager:

open cataloging module
click record, import, from new file
highlight filename (import.dat), click open
highlight record to import, click ok

NOTE: Because it is necessary to save imported records to Voyager one at a time, it may be better to import only one record at a time. If more than one record is imported, the additional records will be stacked in successive windows behind the first one. Click the 'tile' or 'window' option to see the others.

ALTERNATE METHOD IF FULL RECORD IS ALREADY IN VOYAGER:

Copy OCLC bib record control number from updated CatME record
[right click anywhere in the record, click 'copy control number']
Add tags to the Voyager record:
035 _ _ $a ocm12345678 [type 'ocm' and paste the control number]
049 _ _ $a HUHH [your holding library symbol]
Save the Voyager record
