Professor
Richard R. Day is the Chairman of the Department of Second Language
Studies, College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature, University of Dr. Day is the co-author of the very popular Impact Issues,
Topics and Values, published by Longman. These innovative English language
teaching materials feature topics of high interest to learners of English as
a foreign language (e.g., sex before marriage, a woman’s role in
society, abortion, homosexuality, spouse abuse, male-female relationships, capital
punishment, the environment, and war). Professor
Day recently completed work on a three-level reading course for Oxford
University Press, Cover to Cover.
One of the unique features of Cover to Cover is the integration
of reading strategies, vocabulary development, and extensive reading. The first book, co-authored with Junko
Yamanaka, is due out in Fall 2007. He
has been a visiting professor at Ha Noi University
of Foreign Studies, Vietnam, Assumption University, Thailand, and Ashiya University, Japan. Dr. Day is in constant demand as a
speaker and has presented workshops in China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, India,
Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. In 2006, he was
awarded the Pearson-Malaysian International Conference of English
Language Teachers Award for excellent contributions to the field of English
language teaching. He has served on the editorial boards of the TESOL
Quarterly and TESL Reporter. |
