Current research project: Postposing by Japanese-speaking children. Although Japanese is verb-final, Japanese-speaking adults and children often produce NPs, PPs, etc. in the post-verbal position (postposing) in order to express an afterthought, defocus an element, or change the topic. I am pursuing the developmental process of postposing as an indicator of children’s pragmatic and linguistic awareness.
