Exploration
4 A turning point is a crucial change or shift in our lives. "Crucial" implies that this change is likely to influence future events. Each turning point might be said to introduce a new chapter in our personal story. By linking our turning points, we arrive at a kind of condensed or highlight autobiography -- one that takes account of our most salient life events or experiences. To complete this exploration, take some time to think through the turning points in your life. Then draw up a list of those that are most important. Proceed in this way: (1) list no less than eight and no more than ten turning points; (2) list them or number them so that they are in chronological order (it is not necessary to indicate your age at the time); (3) describe each turning point as fully and as feelingly as you can; (4) for each point, indicate why it was a crucial event or experience, that is, indicate its importance or lasting effect on your life. Remember that the stories of our lives, candidly shared and empathically heard, are among the most precious things we can share. Consider pairing with a caring friend or forming a circle of friends with whom you can share your answers to these life questions including your response to this exploration. |
