FACILITIES The College of Agriculture offers excellent facilities for students conducive to create a comfortable and quality learning environment. The Agriculture building located on the main campus provides classroom and laboratories for courses in horticulture, animal science, entomology, plant pathology, plant physiology, tissue culture, soil science, agronomy, aquaculture, crop protection, and agribusiness. Students can also utilize the laboratories and campus greenhouses for special projects in directed reading and research courses. A well-equiped micro-computer laboratory is also available for student usage. A unique feature of the College of Agriculture is the University of Hawaii at Hilo Agricultural Farm Laboratory. On 125 acres of land, students can experience practical learning in various enterprises such as: anthuriums, ornamental foliage and floriculture plants, vegetables, beef, swine, goats, poultry, bee keeping, macadamia, bananas, papayas, guava, and aquaculture. Students have also access to areas devoted to non-circulating hydrophonics, sustainable agriculture and forestry. Because direct application of newly gained knowledge is an integral part of the college's educational goals, many laboratories and courses are based on the farm. Hilo's location in the center of a large agribusiness community also offers opportunities for field trips to many diversified agriculture and aquaculture enterprises.
