I am currently researching Atlantic Hurricanes with my Academic Advisor Dr. Steven Businger. The main storms of interest are Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Studies of the lightning characteristics are being processed for each storm using Long-Range Lightning Detection. The lightning data is being supported by various satellite and radar products, which will hopefully help shead some light on the processes' behind lightning production in hurricanes. With the ultimate goal being more accurate hurricane intensity forecasts using the knowledge gained throughout the study. |
