The Hanauma Bay Education Program is supported by over 100 volunteers who sharetheir time, their knowledge of the preserve, and passion for protecting it. Volunteers staff the preserve's visitor center and an information kiosk on the beach, lead educational programs and tours, and provide clerical, grounds keeping and maintenance support for both the education program and park staff. During 2003, volunteers donated 13,000 hours educating, and enhancing the experiences of, the one million people visiting Hanauma Bay. Our volunteers range in age from high school students to retirees and they commute from all over Oahu. We even have a few seasonal volunteers who travel from the continental U.S. and Canada for a several months each year.
Do you like to talk story with all kinds of people? Are you looking for an excuse to hang out on the beach? Would you like to learn more about marine life in Hawaii? Do you care about protecting Hawaii's marine environment? Anyone who can answer "yes" to one or more of these questions should consider our program. In addition, all volunteers must be able to attend volunteer training, meet the minimum requirements for their preferred volunteer position, and be at least 14 years of age. (Younger volunteers may be considered, if they volunteer as a team with an adult.)
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Hanauma Bay, take a few minutes toreview the different volunteer positions available, as well as the time commitment, training and other requirements associated with each position.
