Our Mission

The Hanauma Bay Education Program Mission Statement:

To enhance appreciation and promote understanding and stewardship of Hanauma Bay and Hawai`i's marine environment through public education.

Program Goals include:

  • planning and development of a dynamic environmental education programparrotfish
  • training volunteers to represent the program's mission to the public and assist in various program activities
  • implementation of appropriate educational activities
  • disseminating information about the program's activities through newsletters and media releases
  • coordination with the City & County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation, the University of Hawai`i Sea Grant Extension Service and private citizens' groups on matters of environmental education
  • seeking funding in support of education projects and activities
