While not quite as voracious as their subterranean counterparts, drywood
termites do present a risk to utility poles, structural lumber, and trees.
One of the most damaging drywood termite species is Cryptotermes brevis,
more commonly called the West Indian or powderpost termite.
As drywood termites do not come from the ground, many of the
strategies for combating ground termites are not effective against drywood
termites. Fortunately, homeowners do have options for managing
drywood termite infestations.
