Double-wall termite inspection made easy

The double-wall construction of many homes presents a problem when it comes to termite inspection.  Plumbing penetrations, sill plates, and wall studs are sealed in the double-wall voids, and are thus difficult to inspect. An innovative product has been developed to help simplify this traditionally troublesome inspection process.

Snap On Baseboard(TM)

A recent development which aids double-wall inspection is the use of removable baseboards. Developed by P.I.M. Development, Inc. of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Snap On BaseboardsTM provide a nondestructive means of inspecting structural elements hidden within double-wall voids. The baseboard units are extruded PVC with inject-molded clips that snap into molded grooves on the rear surface.

The units can be installed during construction or retrofitted to existing structures. During construction, the interior drywall sheets are attached to the studs leaving a 3 inch gap above the finished floor. For retrofits, the drywall is cut 3 inches above the finished floor.
