Home Homeowner's Guide Buying a home Previously-occupied homes

Used homes come in all shapes and sizes. Many of the older homes in Hawaii are built using the post-on-pier method, which certainly aids in the detection of ground termite mud tunnels. Those with double-wall construction or whose frames sprout directly from a slab foundation are somewhat more tricky, as studs, plumbing penetrations, and sill plates are concealed from direct view.

Inspecting the property Inspecting the property
While it is true that homes are professionally inspected before resale, it can be helpful for the prospective homeowner to know what kinds of things a professional may look for during an inspection.

While best done during the construction phase or pre-construction phase of a house, many preventive measures available today can be implemented after the fact, or retrofitted to existing structures.
