Home Homeowner's Guide Buying a home New homes

New homes New homes

One advantage to buying a brand new home is that the home buyer has a clean slate to work with. Unfortunately, most home buyers lack the resources to have a hand in the design or planning process of a customized home. The majority of houses built in Hawaii today are mass-produced in large developments, giving buyers virtually no say in floor plans, construction materials, or construction details.

Fortunately, most developers do incorporate termite resistant building materials in their new homes. In some cases, it may even be possible for a home buyer to request a specific type of barrier or have inspection tools like removable baseboards installed at the time of construction. In order to afford some degree of early detection, post-construction monitoring aids such as bait systems may be installed soon after the purchase of a home.

Although no home can be 100% termite-proof, homeowners can gain an added layer of protection with each different termite-proofing construction technique or product employed. Ideally, homeowners should not rely solely on one type of protection. It is the combined use of many different techniques and products that provides the most complete integrated pest management approach.
