Port
Guyana, based from the Leeward side of Oahu, was formed in March of 2003.
It originally started with Paul and Gwen, a folky yet melodic acoustic duo.
While they
were performing at cafés and local venues, the two already had plans
to expand as a full band. So after a few phone calls -and with some convincing-
Paul reunited himself with former band mates: Eric (switching from guitar
to bass) and James on drums. With the three already having a great work chemistry,
and Gwen setting the equilibrium, Port Guyana was born. The band name isn’t
a play on Paul and Gwen’ s first initials, but was conceived through
natural selection. Gwen said she “liked the way it rolls off the tongue.” Despite
the full band arrangement, Paul and Gwen still perform acoustically (separate
from Port Guyana) while the others also have different music projects.
Like most aspiring musicians, the band’s ultimate goal is to contribute
to the music world as much as possible; but more importantly, to have fun
along the way. From left to right: Gwen-vocals/guitar, Paul-guitar/vocals,
James-drums, Eric-bass.
