Emerging Humanity (ANTH151) |
Archaeology (ANTH210) |
In these courses I try to explore the processes and events that have made human populations both similar and sometimes strinkingly different. Critical reflection and analysis are important in any study. When possible these courses involve students in on-going research as an aid to learning. "Emerging Humanity" introduces students to human evolution and our global cultural history up to the Age of Exploration. "Archaeology" provides the theoretical and methodological background necessary to better understand archaeological research. I have lead the "Field School in Fiji" during the 2001 and 2003 seasons. More information is available on the field school web page. In "Pre-European Hawai`i" we examine the archaeological and ethnohistorical literature to learn about Hawaiian cultue prior to 1778. My teaching philosophy and other aspects of my teaching are presented in my teaching portfolio. |
