Volunteer Opportunities

Theatre Historical Society of America

Interested in theatres? We can use your help, no matter where you live!

Whether you're near or far, we need enthusiastic volunteers to assist us in many different ways!

Members anywhere can serve on any of our committees which fit their own interests or expertise. There's much you can do to help us right from your home!

If you are in or near Chicago, you can volunteer at the THSA headquarters, Museum and Archives in Elmhurst, approximately 16 miles west of the Loop. We're looking for people who have an interest in theatres, or who would like to learn about them, and who want to share their talents with us and our patrons.

There are many tasks at THSA headquarters:

~ If you are a treasure hunter -- complete research requests on theatre history.

~ If you like to work with the public -- answer telephone inquiries and/or greet visitors and conduct Museum tours.

~ If you are good with details -- file and index clippings, magazines, photos and other archival material.

~ If you only have limited time -- fill orders for publication back issues and book sales.

~ If you are available on weekdays -- help with preparing quarterly or other mailings to members.

~ If you are a shutterbug -- photo document or digitize collection objects.

~ If you like working with computers -- we have word processing and database projects of all kinds!

THSA is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on the third Saturday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (call to confirm the latter). We offer a friendly, clean workplace and flexible work periods, surrounded by America's theatres! Choose your hours! Spend an hour or a day with us!

We are convenient to the METRA (Union Pacific - West Line) commuter train from downtown Chicago, and to Interstate 290.

Contact Executive Director Richard J. Sklenar at (630) 782-1800 for more information.
