BENEFITS OF IMA MEMBERSHIP

Professional Network

With Membership topping 67,000, we can within minutes via the IMA network talk with peers, find answers to current issues, and seek relevant professional advice. Literally, the Membership population, with greater than 1.5 million years of combined professional experience, is at our fingertips.

MIGs/e-Mail Groups

Member Interest Groups (MIGs) are composed of IMA Members who share similar professional roles and special interests. They join a MIG so they can network more readily with their counterparts in other companies and get the latest information about what is going on in their field. Areas of interest are: Controllers Council, Cost Management Group, the Small-Business Council, and the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Group, the newest MIG. Members also benefit from 13 industry sector and 6 topic groups supported by threaded e-mail discussion at no additional cost.

Strategic Finance and Management Accounting Quarterly

Strategic Finance is the flagship publication of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). The publication represents the spirit and mission of management accounting and financial management today. Through our award-winning monthly magazine, we provide the latest information about practices and trends in finance, accounting, and information management that will impact Members and their jobs. Our thought-provoking articles also offer advice that will help financial professionals perform their jobs more effectively, advance their careers, grow personally and professionally, and make their organizations more profitable.

Management Accounting Quarterly is a quarterly, refereed online journal. In this publication, we provide in-depth articles by and for academics and practitioners of corporate (management) accounting and financial management. Subjects include cost/management accounting techniques, ABC/ABM, statistical process controls, target costing, theory of constraints, methods of calculating stock options, techniques to improve accounting and finance education, new theories in finance and accounting, and more.

International Reach

Our International Membership and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) candidacy is growing at a faster rate than our U.S. Membership. Nearing 5,000 International Members, it is clear that the International management accounting community recognizes the value and benefit of CMA certification and IMA Membership. Global economy and trade demand full command of International and U.S. regulations and accounting strategy. The CMA certification will continue to encompass U.S. Standards while increasing focus on International Accounting Standards (IAS), making the CMA a global certification.

Local Chapters

Our local chapters are the backbone of the organization. Fueled and managed solely by dedicated volunteers, the local chapters provide an added layer of community and personalization to IMA Membership. Chapter events include networking and professional development. Members involved in local chapters have improved their leadership skills and have developed lifelong friendships through their hard work, involvement, and volunteerism.

The Information Center, facilitated by an IMA-staffed cybrarian, is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. –5 p.m. ET via library@imanet.org or 201-474-1535, ext.1587. Our cybrarian will brainstorm with you on your search and research requirements and will facilitate a search through the McLeod Library here at the IMA headquarters and through IMA’s Internet research resources. Resources include the ProQuest Accounting Database. Typically, research requests are completed within 72 hours.

IMA Research Department

Through our long-standing commitment to conduct research for the management accounting profession and to identify financial management trends to meet the challenges of the new millennium, IMA provides its Members with information of strategic importance and with extensive opportunities to build their professional knowledge and advance their careers.
